Dry mouth clinic in northern ireland

Dry mouth can be a very distressing symptom for some, associated with pain, burning, limiting food choices and restricting chewing and swallowing.  For others the onset is very gradual and starts with bringing a glass of water to bed to sip through the night.

The cause could be a medication or another condition. Medications are one of the most common causes of dry mouth. Long-term relief from your dry mouth may mean stopping or changing your medication or its dosage (always under your doctor’s supervision), or addressing underlying health issues.

The best way to treat dry mouth - known medically as xerostomia, depends on what's causing it. You can do some things to relieve dry mouth temporarily. But for the best long-term dry mouth remedy, you need to address its cause.

Saliva is important to maintain the health of your teeth and mouth. If you frequently have a dry mouth, your gums and teeth are at much higher risk.

At brunswick Dental Practice we can assess and monitor your mouth’s dryness and offer practical support and advice to reduce your symptoms and protect you from the consequences of dry mouth.  We can work with your medical practitioner to improve your xerostomia by adjusting medications where necessary.

If you are affected by dry mouth please contact reception on 028 9146 2234 and we will arrange for assessment at the earliest opportunity.
