Root Canal Therapy in noRthern ireland

Why Root Canal Therapy?

A large cavity, swelling or a little boil in the gum around the tooth or (worst of all), pain can all indicate a dying tooth. When a tooth is dying the pressure underneath can sometimes be completely debilitating.

The pain of an abscess is dreadful, but the treatment shouldn’t be.  We can ease the pressure and hopefully save that tooth using modern equipment, materials and anaesthetic……lots of anaesthetic.

Top tips if you are struggling with a painful abscess.

  • Throbbing tooth

If your tooth is throbbing, keep your head up.

  • Help with sleeping

Sleep with some extra pillows under your head to keep the tooth higher than your heart and relieve some pressure.

  • Take painkillers

Ibuprofen and paracetamol can help but read the packet.   Make sure that ibuprofen in particular is suitable for you and that it is taken with or after food to prevent tummy problems

  • Antibiotics aren’t the cure

Although for some cases dentists will prescribe antibiotics, the only way to get rid of the pain is by clearing out the dying pulp inside the tooth.  Call a dentist urgently.

  • Call at the weekend

You don’t have to wait until Monday to get help.  brunswick Dental Practice is a member of the Bangor Dentists On Call Rota so help is available at weekends too.  Call the practice on 028 9146 2234 as early in the day as you can.  There is usually a fee for this service, but members of our practice are entitled to free emergency callout.

  • Don’t delay

Abscesses shouldn’t be left untreated as they can become very problematic and make you quite unwell.  Seek help if you are at all concerned.
